Making a High School Student LinkedIn Profile
Step 1 – Sign Up at linkedin.com/signup:
– Enter full name; use school email (example: firstname.lastname@school.org) OR create a simple Gmail with name (example: john.smith123@gmail.com)
– Create a password you’ll remember

Step 2 – Add a Headshot: Head and shoulders only, solid background, dress like it’s school picture day.

Step 3 – Headline: Your headline is a one-line description under your name.
– Examples: “High School Student | Exploring Careers in Computer Science and Engineering” or “Student Athlete | Interested in Business and Marketing” or something more general is fine

Step 4 – About Section: This is your story. Use 3–4 short sentences:
Who you are (student, athlete, volunteer, club member); What you’re interested in (future majors or career fields); Achievements you’re proud of (projects, awards, leadership roles); What you’re hoping to do next (connect with mentors, internships, college prep)

Step 5 – Education & Experience: Go to Education Section and click +
– In the School Box, type: Talent and Education Network and the Jobs and Experience Development Initiative (JEDI), select this from the pull down, click save
– Again click + and Add Your High School (with graduation year)
– Go to Experience Section and click +
– Add jobs (could include babysitting, cashier, lifeguard, camp counselor), any volunteer work, clubs, sports, or leadership roles.

Step 6 – Skills: Add at least 5. Examples: Communication, Teamwork, Leadership, Writing, Microsoft Excel, Problem Solving, Customer Service

Step 7 – Connections: Connect with classmates, teachers, coaches, and mentors.
– Follow Talent and Education Network Jobs and Experience Development Initiative (JEDI) page.

Step 8 – Stay Active: Like, comment, and share posts about your interests.
– Post about school projects, achievements, or events. Example: “Excited to join LinkedIn! I’m a student at [High School] working toward a successful career. Looking forward to learning and connecting.”
